Fans go wild as Kolkata Knight Riders crumble to lowest total against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 witnessed a historic moment at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 31, as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were bowled out for their lowest score of the season—116 runs—against the Mumbai Indians (MI). The thrilling encounter left fans stunned, with debutant Ashwani Kumar stealing the spotlight with a record-breaking performance.

A night to forget for KKR

KKR’s innings was off to a disastrous start, losing Sunil Narine in the very first over to Trent Boult. Deepak Chahar compounded their woes by dismissing Quinton de Kock in the second over. By the seventh over, half of KKR’s lineup had returned to the pavilion, leaving fans and players alike in disbelief. Despite Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s valiant effort as the top scorer with 26 runs off 16 balls, and contributions from Manish Pandey (19 runs) and Rinku Singh (17 runs), KKR failed to build any meaningful partnerships.

The collapse was a stark contrast to their previous match against Rajasthan Royals, where they secured an emphatic victory. The absence of momentum and poor execution saw KKR bundled out for a mere 116 runs, marking their lowest score in IPL 2025 so far.

Ashwani Kumar’s dream debut for MI

Mumbai Indians’ debutant Ashwani emerged as the hero of the night. The left-arm pacer etched his name into IPL history by becoming the first Indian to take more than four wickets on debut. His spell was nothing short of magical, claiming Ajinkya Rahane’s wicket on his very first ball and finishing with an impressive haul that dismantled KKR’s batting order.

Ashwani’s performance was complemented by Chahar, who grabbed two crucial wickets. Together, the MI bowlers executed their plans flawlessly, ensuring that KKR never found their footing.

MI’s redemption at Wankhede Stadium

Mumbai Indians entered this match under immense pressure, having lost their first two games of IPL 2025 against Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. With Jasprit Bumrah still recovering from injury and Rohit Sharma struggling for form, MI desperately needed a turnaround. Their bowlers delivered when it mattered most.

This season has already seen some unexpected results and low scores across teams, here’s the list of the lowest scores in IPL 2025:

  • Kolkata Knight Riders: 116 all out vs Mumbai Indians
  • Chennai Super Kings: 146/8 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore
  • Rajasthan Royals: 151/9 vs Kolkata Knight Riders
  • Mumbai Indians: 155/9 vs Chennai Super Kings
  • Mumbai Indians: 160/6 vs Gujarat Titans
